CONTRASTS

My world has always been full of contrasts.

Growing up both in Central America and Europe, I experienced contrasts in life even at a young age. As I see it, contrasts add color, texture, and perspective in all areas of life, also in photography. I try to capture and expose the contrasts I see and over the years it has become part of my personal style.

Life has given me the opportunity to encounter the social, political, and cultural contrasts that brings forth both beauty and ugliness, weakness and strength, good and bad.

I have seen absolute poverty live next door to opulent richness.

Seen oppressed overcome social injustice yet having to fight everlasting circles of corruption.

Seen nature shine in its glorious beauty, right next to the devastating presence of its own environmental executioner.

When an idea forms in me I try to pursue it further, without knowing exactly where it leads me. It can result in a certain theme or a series of pictures relating a certain perspective.

I have been privileged to be able to exhibit these series and themes in several galleries, in different countries.

I have a certain love and preference for black and white in my work.

I have been inspired by photographers like Henry Cartier Bresson, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Martin Chambi and Sebastiao Salgado. I am also very attracted and challenged by the creative work of Luis Gonzalez Palma.
