FOUR SIGNIFICANT TOPICS IN MY PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE

Estilo Magazine

Portraits

The life of a professional photographer evolves around ‘meetings’. Meeting new people and clients, meeting deadlines and meeting expectations. I have always enjoyed all the above. So, when I was invited to work with ESTILO – a social and entertainment magazine characterized by the strict care of its design, photographic quality and content – I considered it a great opportunity to get to work alongside a dedicated team, pioneering the first magazine of this kind in Honduras.  Every cover story is carefully selected and the images play an important role in the telling of the story. The portraits must express the essence of the portrayed – write the stuff  between the lines and take the reader for a ride. An exciting challenge – every time.

Infrared Film

Artistic expression

I am from a generation when the black and white home-laboratory was a natural extension of the actual camera work. I always enjoyed the artistic and unique expressions obtained in experimenting with different solarization techniques, turning processes and infrared films. Each picture is unique and cannot be replicated, it is a piece of art. This, combined with seeking out the unusual places for portraits, like a car junk site or a hanging bridge in the woods, provides great texture and unexpected poses and expressions in the characters and landscapes.

Cultural World

Artists and their works

We often admire the great work of an artist, whether it be a painting, a choreography, sculpture, or piece of music, without really knowing the artist behind. We do not see his or her artistic process involved in creating their art. I have had the honor and pleasure of being able to meet many of my artistic countrymen over the years. Seeing them, as the engage in their art with excellence. This has given me the opportunity to use the art of photography to portray these fine artists and give us all an opportunity to get a glimpse of their creative habitat and look the artist in the eye.

Documentary

Contra camp, Yamales 1989

Honduras has always had a talent for stealing headlines in the social, political and natural areas. I have been able to cover a variety of these major events ranging from political conflicts in the 80’s with La Contra, the fascinating passing of Camel Trophy in Copan in 1995 and the horrific and devastating impact of Hurricane Mitch in 1998. Documenting and telling the story is always important, challenging and fascinating and has been my way of engaging and contributing in the major events in my country.
